Mini Sessions

User Created Content: Mini-Sessions @ Learning 2008

These are informal presentations and discussions that will be 20 minutes long (delivered twice) on Wednesday, October 29th. Imagine a huge ballroom with 40 clusters of tables and chairs for high-energy dialogues in small groups of 10 to 20 colleagues on this User Created Content .

Mini-Session Content, Design and Logistics:

  • These are 20-25 minute “nuts and bolts” informal sessions focusing on a single idea.
  • There will be a mix of topics from the lighter side to a specific practice, rant, discussion, story or even a plea for help.
  • All content must be non-promotional.
  • No media, computers or displays: just storytelling and dialogues!
  • You will be given a flip-chart and markers to use at your table.
  • All sessions will be numbered and attendees will rotate through by choosing two sessions in which to participate.
  • Each Mini Session leader will need to repeat his/her topic twice, back-to-back (with a short break in between).
  • Leaders will allow for at least 5 minutes (or more) of interaction and questions (ideally throughout) and should prepare for a group as small as 4 to 6 people or as large as 30 folks.

Alumni Perspectives

Learning 2007 Quotes:

My first reaction was that this conference really operates differently than any other training conference I have attended.   This conference engages you from the moment you register to months after the event.
     -Gale Frazee, General Motors

I really enjoyed the keynote speakers and thought the structure of having them more casual in front of the big group and have the "deep dive" later was fantastic.   This is my first Learning conference, but I hope it is the first of many. I was particularly impressed with the passion of the speakers and attendees.

Up At Night

"What Keeps You Up at Night?"
A Learning Decision Podcast - 15 Minutes

Elliott Masie discusses 3 Key Learning Challenges that keep him up at night that will be core focuses at Learning 2008:

  • Learning Hype: While many of us are excited about new learning technologies and methods, including PodCasting, Wikis and Social Learning, how do we deal with the Hype and the lack of methodology to leverage these for authentic learning and organizational impact?
  • Economic Jitters and Learning: How are learning organizations and budgets being impacted by uncertain economic times?  What is the impact on learning planning and approaches?
  • Learning Systems: From Databases to Creating Learning Experiences: Many of our LMS and LCMS systems are stuck in the "database" era, tracking learning transactions.  How do we evolve our systems to allow us to design and deliver (and track) targeted learning experiences that are richer, more collaborative and more personalized?

Each of these topics will be key discussions at Learning 2008.  Watch for monthly Learning Decisions PodCasts as we ramp up to the excitement of Learning 2008!
